Absolutely, you can!
The question came out of a quicky live seminar I was asked to host in place of a friend’s LIVE one afternoon. She’d gotten tied up and called me to beg me to take over her LIVE and I did, only to find seventeen people waiting for me to come on.
I had a quick intro ready, but wasn’t prepared to talk for fifteen minutes, so I started taking questions.
I only have my coffee breaks to do something, because I’m super busy after work and on weekends. Could I write my book on coffee breaks?
The key isn’t the amount of time that you put into your book, it’s doing your writing in whatever amount of time you have.
I have a notebook by my keyboard, for whenever I have to power down or reboot my computer. I spend that time writing in my notebook. If I’m waiting in line, I have a notepad where I can jot down information. Whenever I’m waiting on anything – even standing in the kitchen waiting for water to boil – I have a notepad where I can write information.
These notepads go to my VA who ultimately types them into a computer file and sorts them by object, or topic. (Everything but the grocery list, I tell her!)
Many of my books have been ignited from these notes. Many books that others have written have been ignited from these notes. Sometimes, if a client is having trouble getting started, I’ll send them one of these “cliff hangers” to kickstart their writing process.
A recent best seller starts out with a “FIRST LINE” that I wrote several years ago, standing at the kitchen sink with wet hands… LOL The author had tried several first lines, and nothing worked. I threw out my list of first lines and he picked the one that most fit his book. And I’m loving the fact that HE is a best selling author, and used my line. (No, I don’t get royalties.)

Love that, Jan.
One of my former Mentors who has written more than 10 books says that when she’s writing she makes it a daily habit to write a minimum of 10,000 words and that’s great. It works for her and is an excellent strategy.
However, I like and appreciate your point about writing in whatever time you have. I keep a little notebook in my handbag and have begun to speak into a recording app on my phone when I’m driving.
I’ve not put It on my 2019 Planning Calendar yet but I wrote one short fiction story last month and while fiction was not top of mind, it may be a dual project this year. I do have a Best Seller co-authored with someone else, but I really want to have these on my own- a fiction and non-fiction.
Will give it some further thought and get back with you.

Jan that is very valuable information. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in burst of 15 minutes. I think because we tell our brain that we have that limited time, then we do our best to ensure that it is a productive 15 minutes writing session.
I will visit your website. I’m working on my first book (well aside from my doctoral thesis). I think my biggest struggle is maintaining the right mindset – that it is good enough. There is always this feeling that you can do more or even better. However, there comes a time when we have to stop listening to the voice of perfection and remember the 80/20 principle.
I continuously remind myself that I am going to give the best of me and that is good enough.

Yes. You can write a book in 15-minute increments, but you have to really know your topic.
A friend of mine, who has >100 non-fiction books with his name on the cover, said that the best way to write a book was to “outline the whole thing, and then fill it up.”
Can’t think of better advice than that.

Jan, I believe you CAN write a non-fiction book in 15 minute increments –
write a 10 x 10 matrix of ideas that support what you teach, then write for 15 minutes on each topic!
Write another setting for each topic if necessary . .
YES, I believe it can be done!
