I’m planning to teach at length on this, but it’s a combination of many factors, and not everyone of them applies to every person.
But as a starting point, I would say that the biggest obstacle – the one around which all others revolve – is the failure to have a compelling reason for doing what you’re doing.
And even the concept of a compelling reason goes deeper than what Simon Sinek talks about in his book, Start with Why.
To me, the compelling reason is bigger than you. You’re doing what you’re doing so that you can help others and earn a living at the same time; but to me, that’s just the first step.
Something that Sean taught me early on was that God blesses us so that we can bless others, and that’s the key.
Our blessing to others extends beyond how we’re able to help our clients. Our clients enable us to help many who aren’t our clients and, to me, that’s where you’ll find your compelling reason.

For me the biggest obstacle to success has been believing that somehow success equals shame. Therefore, I have suffered from the inability to envision what real success looks like.
It’s as the old trick to keep a horse moving where you hold a stick with a carrot tied to a string over his head and let it dangle in front of his face as you go along.
With my GlutenAlarm site I was NEVER able to see how it could possibly prosper, so eventually, I just gave up.
With my copywriting business, I know up front that I will be paid, so I sell everything I write.
I believe that when you can see where you are going, what it is going to be like when you get there, and the rewards of not only achievement but reaping a monitary reward–the journey can be as much fun as the end result.
I know that I love coaching for the same reason.
